Summary:

We are a rapid prototyping and manufacturing facility, designing, building, and testing proof-of-concept and prototype vehicles.
We have flown an average of one new aircraft type per year over our 40-year history such as Proteus, GlobalFlyer, SpaceShipOne, Model 401, and Stratolaunch.
A Sub-Systems Lead Engineer manages project-level technical performance of a program’s mechanical sub-systems engineering team, satisfying the allocated technical, cost, and schedule requirements.
This individual ensures that the team is adhering to sound engineering processes in the development, modification, and test of mechanical sub-systems on an experimental composite aircraft.
Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Maintaining technical authority for all aircraft subsystems
Providing engineering leadership of subsystem architecture and key subsystem-level trade studies
Planning all vehicle subsystem modifications
Assuring appropriate configuration control and documentation of the aircraft subsystems and all related technical content
Managing the performance of the subsystems engineering team
Assisting the Program Business Manager with tracking the status of the subsystems – both cost and schedule
Briefing project management and the customer on the status of the subsystems
Delivering appropriate technical solutions on budgeted cost and schedule
Mentoring and developing junior engineers on the project
Required Qualifications:
Strong leadership, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills
Comprehensive knowledge of the fundamentals of aircraft subsystem design, construction, and test
Comprehensive knowledge and experience designing and/or managing multiple aircraft subsystems
Strong ability to work effectively with, and balance the requirements of, the customer, engineers, pilots, shop, and management
Ability to represent the company with the customer through direct communication
Experience and understanding of various tools and techniques associated with cost/schedule management
Experience leading efforts through the entire engineering life cycle
Bachelor of Science or higher in an Engineering discipline
A minimum of 10 years of directly related work experience
A minimum of 3 years of leading/managing in an engineering development environment
Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with large transport aircraft, or FAA Part 25 aircraft design criteria
Finite element analysis experience
Experience with bonded and/or bolted composite structure
Large-scale structural test experience
Rapid prototyping experience
CAD Experience in Siemens NX, TeamCenter
Flight test experience
Pilot’s license
Aircraft home-building experience
DoD secret clearance
Additional degrees or relevant work experience
