00 hour per day, 5 days per week, After School Para-Educator at Tompkins Elementary (ASES Program).
Estimated Times: 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm Work times may vary and are subject to change based upon the needs of the District Shift Differential applies *TEHACHAPI UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT* *TITLE:* After School Program Para Educator *CERTIFICATED/CLASSIFIED:* Classified *REPORTS TO:* Site Principal or Designee *DESCRIPTION (DEFINITION & DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS): * Under the direction of the After School Coordinator, this position provides remediation and enrichment activities to individuals or small groups of students.
*PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (EXAMPLE OF DUTIES): * (Duties include but are not limited to the following): - Deliver appropriate standards based academic and enrichment lessons to individuals or small groups of students.
- Provide supervision to students in the classroom, on the playground and on field trips.
- Implement lessons, prepare instructional materials, maintain work areas, and displays as directed.
- Assist students with homework - Maintain the assigned classroom/school area in an orderly condition.
- Maintain a variety of records, reports and files related to student progress and attendance.
- Operate instructional and office equipment, including computers.
- Participate in periodic in-service education relating to the educational program, including classroom and behavior management.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
*QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS): * Knowledge of: - Interpersonal relationship skills using patience, tact and courtesy.
- Basic instructional techniques and practices.
- Simple library procedures, practices and terminology.
- Appropriate classroom procedures and conduct.
- Record-keeping techniques.
- Oral and written communication skills.
Training and Experience: - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and staff.
- Maintain accurate records and files and prepare reports.
- Communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
- Maintain Confidentiality.
Education Requirements: - High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate of Arts (Science) Degree, or successful completion of two years of college, resulting in junior or better standing upon unit evaluation by a Western Association of Schools and Colleges accredited college or university granting bachelors degrees, or passage of an examination demonstrating skills and knowledge equivalent to successful completion of two years of college.
- Must also pass a screening to demonstrate the ability to assist in, instructing reading or reading readiness, writing or writing readiness, and mathematics or mathematics readiness.
- Prefer previous experience working with school-age children and knowledge of classroom and behavior management.
After School Program Para Educator - continued Ability to: Incorporated within the one or more of the previously mentioned performance responsibilities, which are essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements: - Seeing to monitor students during school activities, to read, and to maintain student records and files.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and over the telephone and to provide instruction and assistance to students.
- Sitting for extended periods of time to work with students and to prepare and maintain records and files.
- Dexterity of arms, hands and fingers to demonstrate techniques, operate instructional and office equipment, and perform light clerical duties.
- Stooping, bending, and reaching the arms outward, upward, overhead above the shoulders and downward to retrieve and store books, files, and other instructional materials.
- Kneeling, bending and squatting to work with young students.
- Walking to move among students and between classrooms.
- Pushing and pulling of desks, tables and other classroom furnishings.
- Light lifting.
