Positions within this class require the ability to work with special needs children in the classroom under the general supervision of the site or service administrator.
Within this class, levels are differentiated by the credentials, degree of skills and expertise required to perform successfully within the assignment.
POSITION DEFINITION: Under general supervision to provide instruction to special needs students within credential authorized service; supervise the classroom and playground activities of special needs students; plan as necessary with other staff members for the effective delivery of instruction for special needs students; maintain records to demonstrate and evaluate special needs students educational/social/emotional progress; work with the staff members, parents and other specialists necessary to develop the Individual Educational Plan of each assigned students, and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: * Provide daily instruction to students in authorized and assigned subject areas * Provide for adequate planning for students’ instructional programs both long and short term * Provide an orderly, functional and attractive learning environment for students * Implement the I.

Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of and the ability to apply current teaching techniques in a variety of areas, strong subject matter knowledge, laws and applicable sections of Federal rules and regulations, State Education Code and District and school policies, as well as the Board’s goals and objectives.
The abilities to relate in a positive manner with students, to discipline students fairly and firmly, to communicate in an effective manner with parents, students and other professionals, understand and follow both oral and written directions, work within an established schedule, maintain and interpret records, work confidentially, read, interpret and follow regulations, policies and procedures and work cooperatively with others in the school and district setting.
