Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector has an opening for a Manager 2, Subsystems Design Engineering in Palmdale, CA.
In this hands-on leadership role, you will lead a growing team of engineers supporting a variety of B-2 programs and will be responsible for leading all managerial tasks relevant to Vehicle Engineering.
Approximately 20% of the role will be performing functional homeroom duties such as attending functional staff meetings, management of personnel (performance reviews, direction & coaching), and coordination of job assignments, staffing, and recruiting.
These responsibilities include: Providing leadership and direction to section members including day-to-day support for the operation of the functional organization Ensuring team members have sufficient statements of work Managing employee performance (including engagement strategies for higher performers and corrective actions for lower performers) Coordinating with programs to ensure appropriate staffing actions are developed and executed relative to the section Ensuring employees are familiar with and use required engineering processes and tools Resolving critical/urgent program/technical issues Supporting relevant VE Northrop Grumman Aeronautical Systems Community of Practice is expected The remaining time (approx.
80%) will be spent in the in the sub-systems Vehicle Engineering disciplines, as directed by the B-2 Vehicle Engineering IPT.
You will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and facilitating communications, tasking, scheduling, and technical reviews with each individual contributor’s execution lead in Palmdale, CA.
These responsibilities may include: Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development.
Creates layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers As a leader, you always act with integrity, and the highest ethical standards characterize everything you do.

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor of Science (BS) in a related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 9 years of related professional/military experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in a related STEM discipline with 7 years of related professional/military experience Experience with aircraft structural design and/or subsystems design Current, in-scope DOD Secret clearance (or higher) Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret and Special Access Program (SAP) clearance Preferred Qualifications: ABET-accredited MS in Engineering Current DoD Top Secret Clearance and/or Program Access Expert knowledge of NGC and/or B-2 engineering processes Demonstrated success in B-2 leadership/management roles Experience with B-2 BTP development and aircraft modifications Experience with CATIA V5, Teamcenter, and B-2 legacy tools Experience with Staffing Forecasting Salary Range: $138,100 - $207,100 Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
