Our Aeronautics Systems Vehicle Engineering (VE) team is looking to add a Staff Mechanical Engineer – Subsystems Lead to our team in Palmdale.
The Subsystems Lead will provide technical leadership to a team of engineers as part of the VE technical organization.
The VE organization provides responsible engineering support to a restricted program within the Strike Division.
The team includes mechanisms, environment control systems, power systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, fire protection systems, vehicle management, and electrical subsystems.
The selected candidate will provide technical guidance and oversight to a multi-disciplined team of Responsible Engineers (REs), as well ensure program cost, schedule, and technical goals are met by coordinating people resources assigned to tasking across the program enterprise.
Responsibilities and Duties: Responsible for the technical quality of the Subsystems team's program deliverables (i.
e.
engineering analysis, internal/external briefings, etc.
) Planning technical scope and tasking between multiple business operating units for the Subsystems team to be successful in accomplishing the program’s Statement of Work (SOW).
Participating in internal program, customer, and supplier technical exchange meetings and formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.
Developing program/project planning strategies, as well as cost & schedule implications Aligning team responsibilities with IPT/Program milestones and deliverables Critical Skills include the following: Understanding of leadership versus management, and the responsibilities of both Understanding systems engineering approach toward Subsystems Development and Systems Integration Understanding the level of technical design and support required at different program phases Understanding of Subsystems impacts to System performance, health, and maintenance Understanding of Subsystems disciplines, skillsets, and levels within those disciplines, disciplines that the Subsystems RE will interface with, and Supplier RE’s (Supplier Specs and Supplier Management).
Understanding of Subsystems data analysis to support troubleshooting and subsystem integration Understanding of Subsystems technical manual updates and coordination Basic Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field with 14 years of relevant experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM field with 12 years of relevant experience; OR a PhD in a STEM field with 9 years of related experience.
Experience leading a team of engineers or a project to include planning strategies, deliverables, etc.
Knowledge of at least one of the following: mechanisms, environment control systems, power systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, fire protection systems, vehicle management, and/or electrical subsystems.
Active DoD Secret clearance Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP).
This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in Engineering Active Program Access Experience in an IPT role Salary Range: $165,000 - $247,600 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
