We are a rapid prototyping and manufacturing facility, designing, building, and testing proof-of-concept and prototype vehicles.
We have flown an average of one new aircraft type per year over our 40-year history such as Proteus, GlobalFlyer, SpaceShipOne, Model 401, and Stratolaunch.
Systems Electricians will work on prototype experimental aircraft in a fast-paced research and development environment.
Electricians will work with shop and engineering personnel to help fabricate, assemble, support flight test as well as develop maintenance manuals and inspection plans in an ever-changing environment.
Hardware and software will be developed and modified through flight test operations.
Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Fabricate, assemble, install, and test aircraft systems parts (electrical harnesses, connectors, avionics, circuit boards, relay panels, switch panels), sub-assemblies, and assemblies with little or no supervision.
Operate ground testing and support equipment.
Read and follow MOT’s, drawings, and ER’s.
Use AC 43-13, AS50881, technical manuals, blueprints or sketches for acceptable systems installation methods, techniques, and practices.
Demonstrate adequate troubleshooting techniques to isolate malfunctions in aircraft systems.
Isolate and diagnose the cause of malfunctions, work with engineering and/or crew chief to make necessary adjustments or repairs.
Perform composite fabrication and assembly tasks (wet layup/pre-preg, parts manufacturing, assembly, major and minor repairs), as well as metal part fabrication as needed.
Work with assigned crew chief or engineer on systems fabrication, testing and installation.
Required Skills and Qualifications: Must have a basic understanding of the functionality and theory of the system or systems that are being developed.
Ability to troubleshoot and fix problems quickly.
Ability to work with multiple types of aircraft power systems.
Proficient in the use of crimp tools, soldering, multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and many other tools and test equipment.
Strong mechanical background including experience with aircraft systems.
Proficiency in schematic/blueprint reading and basic math functions.
Proficiency in the use of measuring tools such as scales, calipers, and micrometers.
Good communication skills, to include reading and following verbal and written instructions.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Ability to adapt to configuration changes common in research and development.
Must be flexible and be able to adjust to the changing needs of the company.
Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced research and development environment and a team atmosphere.
Ability to plan work sequence of operation.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance.
Must be able to gain access to ALL Scaled programs.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working on experimental or home built aircraft.
Flight line or flight test experience.
Valid A&P License.
Experience in the use of fabrication equipment (grinders, jig saws, skill saws, drills, band saws, disc grinders, table saws, drill presses, and planers).
Essential Functions: Occasional lifting up to 50+ lbs.

Occasional work with composite materials such as epoxy resin systems, fiberglass, carbon fiber, and foam/core products.

Must be able to pass and maintain ‘pass’ status on OSHA-approved Pulmonary Fitness Test (PFT) in order to wear a respirator for prolonged periods of time.

, computer screen) Ability to remain sedentary or stationary for prolonged periods of time Ability to write for extended periods of time Ability to work in an office setting for prolonged periods of time May be asked to carry up to 20 lbs.
