Location - China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station, Ridgecrest CA
Position Summary: The Telecommunications Mechanic I is located at China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station, Ridgecrest, CA.
Installs, removes, maintains, modifies, troubleshoots, and repairs voice and/or non-voice communications systems including intercom and public address systems, alarm systems, teletype equipment, and electronic and electromechanical telephone key systems/PBAXs; terminal and communications equipment, including line drivers.
This mechanic runs cables, key cables, or house wire to all telephone sets, terminal connectors, lugs, pins, or screws, associated with key telephone equipment and/or terminating equipment for non-voice circuits.
Responsibilities:
Customer Service: daily “face” of the Contract to the end-users.
Discusses customer needs during new construction, building and room rehabs; provides this information to Manager.
Cable Locates: locate and mark buried telephone cable.
Trouble Tickets troubleshooting and repair.
Work Order requests: wiring new service/moving service/disconnecting service including customer premise and communication hubs.
Locate bad cable pairs and splice new cable.
Replacement of pedestals in field
Coordinate equipment and materials needs with Management and Warehouse Clerk
Complete all paperwork documenting DWG changes and Work Order/Trouble Ticket work detail.
Proper handing and documentation of Contractor Inventory
Vehicle maintenance, fueling, cleaning, inspections.
Generator testing, battery replacement as needed, completing all log requirements.
Generator setup/teardown for remotes
Clean and maintain remote CO, equipment Yard and Sea Vans, and office spaces.
Frame wiring at remote CO, BET, IDF, wiring/comm closets
Complete all DoD, NAVAIR, and company required training.
Maintain proper Safety procedures/protocols.
Assist co-workers as needed.
Perform other duties when asked by Management.
Qualifications:
Experience in telecommunications equipment and installation.
Knowledge of telecommunications systems such as Nortel, Adtran, & Tellabs.
Ability to work independently and within team environments.
Excellent communication and time management skills
